PROPOSAL 13

The promotion of bio fuel crop production on marginal or flood prone land

Independent energy security is also of vital national interest therefore biofuel production is a good second best option to food production in flood plain and other at risk areas and we would like to see improved subsidy and commercial support for this sector.

Furthermore, the waste digestate (compost) from this process contains phosphorous an essential mineral for agriculture and one which can only be obtained by raw material mining. Phosphorous is not only a finite global resource but the UK is entirely dependent on imports for its needs, primarily from China, the USA and Morocco. Encouraging agricultural, municipal and domestic level biofuel production will help cycle phosphorous already available in the ecosystem, it will create a beneficial high organic content soil amendment and will help close the loop on input requirements from new extraction.
